DESIGN EXPLORATIONS 2

This design explorations are about exploring the understanding of home and creating belonging with in a community. Not home being a physical structure or the residential interior design. Interrogating the meaning relating to displacement in a contemporary world, and how to create a home in a new community. This project is not about the interior design of a house, housing or a household. Home for this project is beyond the interior space of a house.
After the design explorations 1, the idea of community connection in order to create a sense of belonging and understand the sense of home became important.
Activities we can share with different cultures to create a sense of belonging in a multicultural demography. Understanding homemaking practice that it can be outside the domestic interior. Beyond the scale of the household to the community who live in one suburb.

Spatial Memory

I work again on the idea of spatial memory, this time I asked my family who also lived on those past homes, most of them talked about how in all this places the community that surround it such as convenient store, local shops and neighbors made feel like home too.

Reflective Material

This design exploration is an experiment of the reflective material and how it moves upon encountering it. It gets activated when you move towards it.

Overlay

This design exploration is overlaying transparent interior view of a house  on top of a public shared space which is a tram stop. This experiment led me to an idea of creating a temporary event that would create a sense of belonging by letting people share something outside their domestic interior.

Home.More Than A House.

This design exploration inspired my project proposal, using the idea from the design exploration above, to create a home outside the context of a house. I asked my family to draw their sense of home, and most of them drew this house with a triangular-shaped rooftop and rectangular for the bottom part. Then I used these drawings and made a model and photographed it in different ways, but then I decided to use the shape that most of them drew to create this understanding of home can be in the center of a public communal shared area.
